Lavender Scholarship

This past year there have been many new milestones here at SSU to acknowledge, to celebrate, and to forward equity for our LGBTQ+ students and allies: the new location of the Women’s & Gender Equity Center, the growing commitment to Family Connect, the Lavender Graduation ceremony, and the one-of-a-kind Rainbow Bear t-shirt that has become a sign of support and appreciation campus wide.

We’ve come a long way, but with our next step we can make history together.

In our almost thirty-five years, SSU has never had a scholarship specifically designated for a student who advances equality and equity for our LGBTQ+ students and allies. This year, we are proud to announce that through the SSU Development Foundation, The Lavender Scholarship has been created to assist those students who are supporting the LGBTQ+ community on campus and who can demonstrate their dedication to the community.

In order for us to establish The Lavender Scholarship as a lasting opportunity at our university, we will need to raise $25,000 to reach endowment level. To date, we have already raised $8,000 through the support of several campus and alumni allies, and we are hoping that together we can reach the amount we need to further our commitment to the campus LGBTQ+ community.

We are very excited, friends, as is the team of people working on this project. We would not have been able to start this process without the support of you and others in our campus community. It will take all of us to change history, and one day our students will be able to look back on how this started, and they will recognize the part we played. We hope you will join us.
