MAKE IT COUNT

Sherrill Day is a Shawnee State superfan. A long-time Golden Bear and supporter of Shawnee State athletics, Day rarely misses a home game for the men’s and women’s basketball teams. Her love of basketball dates back to her playing days at Union High School and Fairbanks High School in central Ohio, and her passion for the game has only grown over the years. She is particularly picky about one fundamental element of the game that often gets overlooked.

“I love basketball. And that’s where the game is won or lost, on the foul line,” Day says. “If you can’t make your foul shots, you’re done for.”

For fans of Shawnee State, Day’s voice is instantly recognizable. Her shouts of “MAKE IT COUNT” echo through Waller Gymnasium every time the Bears approach the foul line. In 2019, she put her money where her mouth is. Day pledged to donate one dollar for every foul shot the men and women’s basketball teams made at home games that season. And she has continued the tradition every year since.

In 2025, the Shawnee State University Foundation invites you to join Sherrill’s efforts to support the Shawnee State Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams by supporting the Make It Count Scholarship. Fans and friends can join Sherrill’s pledge for a specific game, a set of games, or the entire season! Here’s how it works:

  • Complete and submit the form below. Be sure select a home game and enter the amount you’d like to pledge.

  • Example: $1 per made foul shot. $5 per made foul shot, etc.

  • A Foundation team member will reach out after the game you selected to arrange the donation.
